In The Beginning

Galiffa's Wholesale Pizza Products was started by Arthur E. Galiffa in the early 1950's. He owned a Dairy Bar on the hill of Donora, PA where he sold pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs, ice cream, soda, penny candy, and more. He closed the Dairy Bar to pursue a Pizza Manufacturing business in a small building behind his home on Forth Street on the hill of Donora, PA. He serviced small stores, taverns, clubs, and swimming pools with readymade pizzas and pizza ovens. His wife, Mary, managed the business with him while he worked at his regular job.

The started selling School Fundraiser's first with their readymade pizzas. And then added their Original Galiffa's Pizza Kit. Both products quickly became very popular for fundraiser's because they were fun to make, and the organizations made a nice profit. However they eventually stopped producing the Original Galiffa's Pizza Kit because of the labor involved, but they continued to make readymade pizzas.

Innovation

Mary and Art Galiffa were the first to sell cooked pizza at the Western Pennsylvania County Fairs, when "pizza" was still unheard of.

Art has stated that it was a struggle, because Fair Patrons first made fun of it. And called it a "tomato pie".

In the 1970's, they invented the Original Galiffa's Pizza Kit which consisted of two shells, two bags of sauce, and two bags of cheese. This enabled customers to be able to assemble their own pizza, and cook it at home.

Passing The Legacy On

In 1999, Mr. Galiffa turned the business over to his only son, Barry, and his family. His son has since launched three new products, Galiffa's Gourmet Subs, Galiffa's Gourmet Appetizers (Flatbread's), and Galiffa's Gourmet Pizza Kits, bringing his fathers pizza kits back out to the public, but with a new twist.

Barry, his wife Judy, and his four children; Dana, Derek and wife Leah and son Marco, David and daughter Amira, and Dylan and fiance Kaylin all work at the family business.

Arthur and Mary both passed away in 2009, and Barry's family continues to service concession stands, taverns, clubs, bowling alleys, skating rinks, and swimming pools with pizzas and ovens.

For over 50 years, the Galiffa's are still vendors at two County Fairs, selling cooked pizza, subs, and drinks. And are continuing Art and Mary Galiffa's vision of providing Gourmet Subs, Pizzas, Pizza Kits, and Gourmet Appetizers to local organizations for fundraising.
